Most faculty members recruit and train post-doctoral fellows in their own labs. All faculty members have adjunct faculty appointments at the University of Colorado and, upon appointment to the Graduate School, are able to train graduate students.
Most graduate student training and mentorship opportunities are through the closely aligned Department of Immunology and Microbiology where Cell Biology faculty teach, serve as course directors, Chairs and members of numerous graduate student preliminary exam, comprehensive exam and thesis committees. Graduate student teaching and training opportunities also exist in the Departments of Pharmacology, Pathology, Cell and Development Biology and within the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Toxicology.
In addition, many clinician fellows from the Pulmonary Fellowship Program in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine train in labs of Cell Biology faculty members. Many of the pulmonary fellows, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students who have trained with Cell Biology faculty members have subsequently established their own independent NIH-funded research careers. Others have gone on to assume leadership positions at Universities across the US and overseas.
